Annual Report 2020/21
Introduction
Bright Hope Uganda seeks to full fill its mission as we “educate, nurture and provide necessities“ to the children of Uganda in poverty through our partnership with Kyamulibwa Baptist Churches and the other churches in the district. We continue to see what God is doing for the children in poverty through the work of Ps Sam Tushabe and his team and associated institutions with the support of our generous Australian supporters and sponsors.
Pandemic
All around the world people and nations are affected by the Covid panic as it continues to disrupt the plans and progress of the nations. Uganda is deeply impacted along with all other countries. The primary effects are seen in the health and economic systems which then flow down to the education system and to the families we support through BrightHope. We have continued to work within our mission while broadening our support levels and activities in supporting the schools in providing classrooms to meet government education regulations and to provide necessities or the wellbeing of children and families with food or other supplies where required.

I Impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Uganda
Reports indicate that Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases continue to rise in Uganda, and the country is in
lockdown. The government directed all mass gatherings to stop and all churches and schools to close. A
curfew is in place from 7pm to 6am. It is impossible for the poor to fully comply. They are not contract or
salary workers but casual labourers, largely working in the fields and most often living on a subsistence
basis. All public transportation has been suspended and nonessential businesses are closed. Hunger,
starvation and weakened immune systems are a grim reality across poorer, less developed countries like
Uganda. . Remaining in the home and keeping social distance is not only difficult but puts a family into
hardship and malnutrition.
Specifically we have received 2 text messages from Pastor Sam
“We are also starting staying at home and just movement to shops of food items but in limited number
and in a distance of 4 meters apart. We trust only our lord for deliverance. We love you and pray for you.
“We are all still okay but have to be in small groups and so no church congregation pray from home. God
is faithful and is our refugee let's hide in thee. We love you and pray for you.
In the light of our very privileged situation here in Australia with healthcare and economic resources the
BrightHope Committee decided that we would send an emergency relief gift to Pastor Sam for his work with
children in crisis associated with the program.
In response he has advised the relief fund has been used to buy maize
flour, beans, sugar, cooking oil, salt and soap which he has distributed to
the 22 homes that are most in need.

children to have access to reading God's word. It is a real Lamp to our feet.”

Empty drink bottle and can campaign
The stay at home restrictions have made it difficult for our very successful campaign to continue in earnest which is disappointing given that the funds of around $900 have been raised in just 9 months. Please continue to save your empty bottles in the hope that the campaign can recommence again in earnest once the coronavirus is beaten.
Just 750 empty bottles/cans generate to send a young child to school for a full year.

Dear BrightHope Supporters & Friends
Our God loves all people, of all ages and in all nations like He does us. Jesus is the Saviour of all. He rescues and restores all who believe and receive him. The HBC team had the joy and privilege of seeing God at work in Uganda. Loving and rescuing people who believe. The mission goal of being in Uganda was twofold.
· We shared in mission with the local churches to speak with others about Jesus.
· The team encouraged the children and youth supported through Bright Hope.
As we encouraged and shared we also learned about life in rural Uganda, about the struggles of poverty and the effect of having opportunity to be educated. We recognized that true joy is more than material things. That all people have hopes and dreams, gifts and talents.
We saw the help that the Bright Hope partnership brings to children, families, schools, society and churches.
We saw the love of Jesus shared with children and families through sponsorship, words and deeds and God brings many people to know Him through work with children, in churches and in our community contacts in the villages and at the hotel.
Thank you for your loving and generous support for the children through Bright Hope and your prayers as we shared in mission.
If you have questions or would like to hear, more or if you are interested in joining in the next trip please contact Ps Lyn, or talk with anyone of the Bright Hope Commit

Message from Pastor Sam in Uganda following on from the Mission visit
We were blessed to have a team come to visit us in Uganda. The wonderful work of serving the Lord among the children and the children will always be a seed sown and God will water it and enable it to grow and bear fruits.
Thank ROHAN for the Guitar team that he started in Our Church, we hope to see the youth continuing to grow in Music and glorifying the Lord as they serve him.
We hope to train the teachers who will guide these children groups by the end of August. They will be two from each school.
Please pray for us. And any support that can help in organising their 2 day Seminar will be another blessing.
God bless you and all friends that support the BrightHope Uganda Programs.
We love you and pray for you.

BrightHope Chair Annual Report - August 2018
We praise God for another year of opportunity to serve Him in Uganda providing for the education and nurture of children in the Kyamulibwa district with Pastor Sam and the others who serve in the churches and community in Kyamulibwa Uganda.
Uganda.
The children – Children are being supported in education and in nurture with approximately 150 receiving support in primary, secondary and some beyond in other tertiary or trade studies.
The children – Children are being supported in education and in nurture with approximately 150 receiving support in primary, secondary and some beyond in other tertiary or trade studies.
Letters -In the three parcels, each of 50 letters, received this year there is a consistency of comment from children that they have security in knowing they have full fees paid, they will not be sent home because of unpaid fees and this gives them to be consistent in schooling. This means that children have opportunity to pass each grade in order to go onto next level which must be difficult if attendance is limited by lack of fees.
Pastor Sam - We acknowledge the faithful work of Ps Sam and the team of people who assist in making the BrightHope program function. It simply would not exist without him. We are inspired by his energy and health and helpfulness. He consistently puts himself out with flexibility in trips to Masaka for banking and emails. All of this done, not for himself but for the children.
Pastor Sam talking with some of the beautiful children of Kyamilibwa
Projects – A number of projects flowed through BrightHope this year as a result of our visits. Though not all were BrightHope projects we are thankful for these activities to help with health issues and education which are part of our broader vision. eg assistance with special medical needs, blackboards, motor bikes and a toilet block at Kanfuka school. To these sponsors we say thank you.
Australian operations
2017 Mission Visit. The 2017 trip saw significant impact in the lives of students and this has been followed up with nurturing opportunities, special teaching seminars and help for those needed further support and nurturing. Thanks to those who have sponsored these initiatives.
New partners - We are pleased that we have some new sponsors on board. Thanks to those who have joined the small number of our faithful and regular supporters.
Website – Our website has been upgraded to make it current and we hope it has been of interest to sponsors and readers generally. We are seeing a more regular use of this means of communication channel. It has resulted in increased interest there being 10 or so site visits every week.
Mission Visit 2019 - 16 people attended a preliminary meeting from HBC and DBC - with interest from people from Batemans Bay and Gundagai. This is the most response we have ever had to a mission trip invitation.
Thanks to BrightHope helpers – As we close another year we thank God for all he has done in serving those children He loves in Uganda and we wish to thank each person who has contributed to making this happen here in Australia. May God bless His work and us as we do it.

Children's Letters - June 2018
It is with much delight we have received a batch of letters from over 50 BrightHope sponsored children. In the letters the children express a sincere faith and it is an undoubted blessing to have a relationship with them all.
Most letters open with "I greet you in the name of Jesus Christ", and go on to express genuine thanks for the support they receive without which they could not attend school as referenced in the following quote from one letter
'...thank you for the wonderful thing you are doing for me because when I was at school many students were sent back home because of fees problem but for me my schools fee was paid in time..".
Many include a memory verse. Other general comments concern how they are performing at school, the environment in which they live (this time it is about being in the rainy season) and the struggles they experience in daily life.
A couple of the letters are set out below.

Mission Visit 2017
One of the delights in our partnership is the privilege of visiting Uganda and meeting the children we sponsor. Mostly this is a school visit or church visit and the children are identified as those supported in the program. As we do that we have the opportunity to serve with the Ugandan people in anything they are doing. In 2017 this was the privilege of teaching at 25 local schools. Here a few pictures of the team presenting footballs and netballs as well as bibles to the schools and children. We also visited some local homes and heard their stories of life with its difficulties of health and poverty. We were also guests at a local wedding conducted by Pastor Sam.

This has led to a new group of God fearing young men and ladies and it will continue to impact the lives of many in our communities and Uganda at large.
Our children were really blessed by your visit to our area. It was great encouragement and it built a real Bright Hope to the children and children guardians. The churches were filled with joy and have continued to prayerfully support you as they organize their many prayer meetings and special days of prayers and fasting.
The children had a good year and many passed with good grades while others are still waiting for their National Examination results of S.4, S6 and tertiary (Vocational Institutes and Collages). We had spiritual conferences in January 2018 one at Kigasa and Nabugabo Lake side Camp where we also sent some of our youth they really enjoyed the teaching in different disciplines regarding successful Christian living. We also have organized a three day seminar this week 15th to 18th as the Masaka Baptist Association Churches for our outstanding youth (Emerging leaders) to continue being trained in handling Bible studies and other Ministry disciplines. I am sending some of the children letters (Those in secondary and post secondary) who can write English well, they represent even those in primary sections whereby you can get a general over view of the situation a child goes through this by post office. Thank you for the support to schools we have received the Kigasa blackboard support. Send our great lovely thanks to all friends that have stood with you in supporting a needy child in Uganda.”Your labor in the Lord is not in Vaim” friends you are building a people of power out there in Uganda. Looking forward for a bright year 2018. We love you and pray for you. Your friend, Pastor Sam On behalf of all your Ugandan friends |
