Ugandan Population
44,451,855million
According to 2018 estimates, the population of Uganda is around 44.47 million, up significantly from 2013’s estimate of 33,640,833. However, one should remain mindful that Uganda in these estimates takes note of all mortality accounts that it experiences due to AIDS. As a result, these accounts can possibility affect all subsequent statistics such as infant mortality, life expectancy, higher death rates, and lower population growth
The life expectancy in the country is around 58 years, with males being 56.7 years and females being 60.5 years. Due to the high marriage rate the age structure is shewed towards the younger generations.
Age Group per cent
0 – 14 years 49%
15 – 24 years 21%
25 – 64 years 28%
Over 65 2%
Given these statistics it could be said that Uganda has a large population classified as a work force which could in turn help its growth. However with so many in the 0 – 14 years category (over 21 million children) the Government faces a major challenge in its effort to educate these children. This is where BrightHope plays a important role by not only supporting children’s education but more importantly in caring & nurturing them as they become young adults and are then well placed to contribute to their community in a positive way.
Birth Rate. The continued high birth rate is also a major challenge for Government. The number of children per women at 6.9 (1.7 in Australia) over the past decade is one of the highest in the region.
One birth every 17 seconds i.e. over 5,000 births every day
One death every 1 minute
One net migrant every 18 minutes
All this means the Ugandan population is increasing by over 3,800 every day.
